Biocard Malaria Pf/Pv Rapid test is an immunochromatographic assay for the qualitative detection of Plasmodium falciparum (Pf) and Plasmodium vivax (Pv) antigen in the human whole blood specimen.
Trivitron Biocard® Malaria Pf/Pv Rapid Test Kit is a diagnostic tool designed to detect the presence of two common malaria parasites: Plasmodium falciparum (Pf) and Plasmodium vivax (Pv). This rapid immunochromatographic assay allows qualitatively detecting specific antigens produced by these parasites in human whole blood specimens.
The test kit consists of a membrane strip with three distinct test lines. The first test line, labeled Pf, is pre-coated with an anti-HRP2 monoclonal antibody, specifically targeting the Histidine Rich Protein 2 antigen produced by Plasmodium falciparum. The second test line, labeled Pv, is pre-coated with anti-Pv pLDH monoclonal antibody, which binds to the Plasmodium vivax-specific parasite lactate dehydrogenase antigen. These specific antibodies enable the detection and differentiation of the two malaria species.
The kit includes a pre-coated control line with a control antibody. The control line serves as a procedural control, indicating that the test has been performed correctly and is functioning properly. Its presence ensures the reliability and accuracy of the test results.
To perform the test, a small amount of whole blood specimen is added to the sample well of the test kit. The specimen migrates along the membrane strip through capillary action. If Plasmodium falciparum antigen (HRP2) is present in the blood, it will bind to the anti-HRP2 antibody on the Pf test line, resulting in a visible line. Similarly, if Plasmodium vivax antigen (pLDH) is present, it will bind to the anti-Pv pLDH antibody on the Pv test line, producing another visible line. The control line will also become visible to indicate that the test is valid.
Early and accurate malaria diagnosis is crucial for effective patient management and prevention of complications. This kit can promptly identify the specific malaria species involved, allowing for targeted treatment and reducing the risk of severe disease outcomes.
