United with a common goal - Global Healthcare!

Mr. Vincent participated in Healthcare executive cover story on diagnosis topic.

01 - February - 2015

Vincent Miranda, Director, Sales and Marketing, Diagnostics of Trivitron Healthcare doesn't mince words when he talks about the current state of Indian medical device sector. "India is not only one of the largest but amongst the fastest growing healthcare markets in the world. This growth is mainly due to the rising income levels, growing healthcare awareness, medical insurance which is leading to preventive healthcare approach. Diagnostics products especially high-end instruments and analyzers are mostly imported in India which leads to higher cost for the pathology labs and hospitals and ultimately high testing cost for patients. India being a highly price sensitive market and low regulation, this high cost of equipment leads smaller diagnostic labs to opt for cheaper options which might not give reliable results to end customers. Hence the quality of diagnosis becomes questionable especially in smaller labs and small towns. Only 30 percent cost of the INR70, 000 crore worth domestic medical devices market is served by local manufactures who mostly operate in the low-price, high-volume medical devices segment. With "Make-in-India" this import dependent segment will not only give us self-reliance but will also help in making healthcare services more affordable and accessible to a larger Indian population. Like in other sectors, large MNC's can take the advantage of low cost of manufacturing and use India as the manufacturing hub not only for domestic but for global supplies," says Miranda
